TLC’s Baylen Dupree EXPLODES Online: ‘I Need People to Understand!
Baylen Out Loud star Baylen Dupree, who began building a fanbase on TikTok pre-TLC, returned to the social media platform with an urgent message for her followers.
The 22-year-old filmed a selfie-style video to address some things about her diagnosis of Tourette syndrome that she “needs people to understand,” addressing one of the “many…misconceptions” that she hears: that her diagnosis is a rarity.
“What you probably didn’t know [is that] 50 percent of people with Tourette go undiagnosed,” she said, emphasizing the number. “Let me repeat that: 50 percent of people go undiagnosed with Tourette. That is huge.”
“So, I need people to understand that Tourette and tic disorders are not uncommon,” she continued. “Tics are in one in every five people, okay? So when everyone talks about how ‘people with Tourette don’t do this,’ ‘people with Tourette don’t have that,’ let me slow you down there, babes.”
She continued to vent, noting that even many doctors don’t understand the diagnosis, emphasizing how little knowledge there is about the syndrome despite how common it actually is.
“So, for people to say Tourettes is rare, Tourettes is this, Tourettes is that, no! 50 percent of people go undiagnosed with Tourette. That’s a lot. That’s a lot, okay? That’s a lot,” she drilled in. “Keep that in mind.”
Fans were shocked by the numbers she presented, agreeing with her that “that’s a lot.”
Others shared their own stories, with one noting it took “so many neurologists and tests” before they “came across the right doctor” to get their diagnosis.
“My dad wasn’t diagnosed until his 20’s and it was only because his sister saw a commercial,” someone else revealed. “His family doctor had never heard of it.”
Fans could also tell how passionate she was about educating her followers based on how active her tics were in the video, with one writing,
