Inside Whitney Leavitt’s Broadway Debut, Including the Glitzy Afterparty and Which Mormon Wives Stars Attended.
PEOPLE was on the scene as the reality TV star took the stage as Roxie Hart in ‘Chicago’ and celebrated with her costars late into the night
Whitney Leavitt is officially a Broadway performer!
The Dancing with the Stars semi-finalist and breakout star of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives made her Broadway debut on Monday, Feb. 2, performing the iconic role of Roxie Hart in Chicago to a sold-out, energized audience at New York City’s Ambassador Theatre.
Handed a bouquet of flowers by the company during curtain call, Leavitt appeared to get emotional looking out into the audience — where she was supported by her husband, Conner, childhood friends, and several Mormon Wives cast members.
And the festivities didn’t stop there: After the show’s opening night, PEOPLE was in attendance as family and friends traveled a couple of blocks from the theater to Glass House Tavern, a local bistro, for a glitzy afterparty, thrown in collaboration with Tarte Cosmetics.
Here are all of the details from Whitney’s milestone opening night!

Whitney was supported in person by all of her Mormon Wives castmates — except for one
As Whitney teased to PEOPLE several weeks before taking the stage, the Mormon Wives cast came out in full force to support their girl on her big day.
Her costars Mayci Neeley, Jessi Ngatikaura, Mikayla Matthews, Miranda McWhorter, Layla Taylor and Jen Affleck were all in the audience at the Ambassador Theatre — and even stopped by (with several husbands in tow) to the afterparty, as well.
There was one notable absence: Demi Engemann, following speculation that she would not be returning to the show in its fourth season when it premieres in March.
(Speaking to PEOPLE in December, Engemann shared that she had been invited back by production but said “we’ll see” if she would return; she did not appear in the season 4 trailer released on Jan. 21.)
Engemann still shared her support for Whitney from afar, telling her to “break a leg” on her Instagram Stories before the curtain opened and resharing a video from PEOPLE of Whitney taking her final bows, adding the text, “my girl!!! ♥️”
Conner was very chummy with Mormon Wives stars in the audience and happily took photos with fans

Whitney’s husband left their three kids at home — Chicago’s a pretty raunchy show, after all — and was spotted by PEOPLE chatting with several Mormon Wives cast members before the lights dimmed.
He was just as friendly to Mormon Wives fans, mingling with a small crowd that formed around him by his seat and happily snapping photos with fans outside of the theater ahead of showtime.
He and Whitney packed on the PDA after she rocked the stage, locking lips with a congratulatory kiss as cameras flashed at the afterparty.
An iconic line referencing Mormons in “Cell Block Tango” received a huge laugh and applause from the audience

During the Chicago song “Cell Block Tango” — which fans will remember Whitney and her pro partner Mark Ballas performed on DWTS in November — one line in particular sparked a loud reaction from the audience.
The character Annie, describing her reasoning for committing murder, says of her victim, “Not only was he married, well, he had six wives; one of them Mormons, you know?” Actress Samantha Sturm pointed out in the audience, where several Mormon Wives cast members were sitting, as she delivered the line — and the Ambassador Theater erupted in cheers and laughter.
The audience’s applause was so rapturous during Whitney’s bows that veteran cast members said they had never heard anything like it

It’s no surprise that fans of Mormon Wives came out in droves to cheer on Whitney’s milestone moment, but nobody could have anticipated the crowd’s reaction when she took her final bow.
Chatting with PEOPLE at the afterparty, several veteran cast members — who have performed alongside Vanderpump Rules star Ariana Madix and Cruel Summer actress Olivia Holt in the role of Roxie over the last two years — remarked that the crowd response to Whitney’s rendition was unprecedented.
During intermission, Mormon Wives fans were clamoring to get a peek at the cast members in the audience

As soon as the lights turned on during intermission, fans jumped out of their seats and craned their necks to get a view of the Mormon Wives cast members sitting in the audience.
They flooded the aisles on each side of the theater with their phone cameras raised, and several from the balcony even shouted Conner’s name to get his attention (he smiled and waved back).
The afterparty may make an appearance on a forthcoming season of Mormon Wives

Fans may be treated to an inside look at Whitney’s Broadway debut during a forthcoming season of the hit Hulu show.
At the afterparty, all guests had to sign a digital waiver before entering, and several cameramen and boom mic operators milled around the venue, largely training their equipment on Whitney, Conner, and the rest of the Mormon Wives cast.
The party itself was styled from top-to-bottom with Chicago-inspired decorations, including fake cigarettes, golden candelabras draped with pearls, a themed cocktail menu and a photobooth. Most of the Mormon Wives cast arrived shortly after the end of the show, around 10 p.m., and left just before midnight.
