What happened between Jen and Zac Affleck in Season 1?
Hulu viewers were introduced to the Afflecks in Season 1 of “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.” Jen Affleck met her future husband on a Mormon dating app when she was 18 years old. After getting married in 2019, they had their first child, a daughter named Nora, in 2021. A son named Luca arrived in 2023.

When the #MomTok ladies ended up at a Chippendales show in Las Vegas, Jen Affleck was worried that attending the show would be “disrespectful” to her husband. When she told Zac Affleck she was at the show, they got into a big fight.
Later on, Jen Affleck told her co-stars her husband said he “didn’t want to be married to her” if she “does stuff like this.”
In an interview with TODAY.com before Season 1 premiered, Jen Affleck said she thought her husband was mad because of “the context of the situation.”
“If we were at a bachelorette party and we’re just celebrating, it wouldn’t have been a big deal. But because we’re representing our church, and (I think) he knew that millions of people were going to see that, (he was) scared that they would put me in a tough situation with filming, and that they would portray me in a different light that I’m not,” she said.
What happened between Zac and Jen Affleck after Season 1 premiered?
Shortly after “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives“ premiered, Jen took to TikTok to acknowledge that appearing on the show was difficult.
“Lets just say this 1st season was rough for us,” she captioned a video of herself and her husband.
After Season 1 premiered, Jen Affleck told Decider the Chippendales fight “strengthened” her marriage. The #MomTok influencer also told Vulture that she and her husband had been doing “therapy nonstop” since filming the first season.
“If we continue in our relationship, there are changes that need to be made. If they’re not made, we might have to… look at other options. But as of right now, I do think he’s trying his best to make those changes,” she said.
On Sept. 19, Jen Affleck posted a tribute to her husband and a recap of the state of their marriage on Instagram. The lengthy caption was accompanied by photos. She credited her husband’s support for her own success.
“I couldn’t have done it without Zac. Is Zac perfect? No. Does he have flaws that we’ve needed to address. Yes. But I can confidently say he’s always supported and believed in me more than anyone else,” she said.
She confirmed that they are still together amid the “struggles like so many marriages have.”
“But do we love each other? Yes. Are we willing to put in the work to be better? Yes. Have there been moments when we wanted to walk away? Of course. But there’s so much more to our marriage and what we offer to each other than people realize,” she said.
What happened between Zac and Jen Affleck in Season 2?
The couple announced their separation
Early on in Season 2, viewers learned that Jen and Zac Affleck were spending some time apart after their big Chippendales blowout.
“It’s been a few months of straight hell since Vegas,” Jen Affleck revealed, adding that she was “separated” from her husband.
A few months beforehand, the couple was committed to moving to New York so Zac Affleck could attend medical school. However, he later got accepted to a school in Arizona and the family moved there. Amid their marital issues, Jen Affleck returned to Utah and #MomTok.
Jen told Zac what she needed from him to make the marriage work
When Zac Affleck visited his wife in the season premiere, he expressed his desire to move back in with her and put his medical school education on hold. Still, Jen Affleck seemed hesitant since their relationship had been so “rocky” recently.
In a confessional interview, she outlined what she needed from her husband in order to mend their relationship, saying, “For me to want to fight for our marriage, I need to feel like he’s putting my feelings before his.”
Zac Affleck then pleaded his case, saying he “messed up” and was working on himself while attending therapy.
“I want to prove to you that I love you and that I am a good husband and I am a good father. I want to fight for our marriage and that’s why I’m here,” he said.
Jen Affleck told her husband they needed to be “equals” for their marriage to work moving forward.
In a confessional interview, Zac Affleck admitted that the world’s response to their Chippendales fight had taken its toll on their relationship.
“After Vegas it felt like the whole world was against us and wanted us to get a divorce. I had so many regrets about how I acted and the way that things went down,” he said.
Although she was still adamant that separation was best to help “figure out what’s best for our relationship,” Jen Affleck allowed her husband to move back in. However, she made him promise not to talk over her.
In addition to doing couples’ therapy, the couple experimented with ketamine therapy in an attempt to deepen their emotional connection.
Zac’s tension with Jen’s #MomTok friends continued
Zac Affleck hasn’t always been the best of friends with his wife’s #MomTok pals. The brewing tension, particularly with Demi Engemann and Jessi Ngatikaura, came to a head in Season 2 of the Hulu reality series.
After Jen Affleck said it was important that her husband be on good terms with her friends, Zac Affleck met up with the two TikTok influencers in one scene and attempted to clear the air.
The trio quickly realized that they may have received mixed signals from Jen Affleck. For instance, Engemann and Ngatikaura said Jen Affleck told them that Zac Affleck had gambled away his medical school tuition. Zac Affleck denied doing so.
Zac Affleck clapped back by saying Engemann and Ngatikaura weren’t there for his wife following the Chippendales fight. However, they felt differently.
The Afflecks later met up with Engemann and Ngatikaura and tensions rose. In a confessional interview, Engemann said she wasn’t sure who to believe.
“For so long, I was team Jen against Zac and now Jen’s showing erratic behavior and starting to lie and showing what kind of friend she is,” she said.
Meanwhile Jen Affleck questioned her bond with Engemann and Ngatikaura.
“After talking to Jessi and Demi, I don’t know where my friendship stands with them and if I can trust them,” she said in a confessional interview.
The Chippendales fight resurfaced
During a Halloween party, a few of the #MomTok ladies planned to have some of their husbands do a Chippendales dance for Jen Affleck. Zac Affleck watched on and looked uncomfortable.
“I don’t know whether to have a good time right now because I know that this is making Zac uncomfortable and because of how both Demi and Jessi treated my relationship prior to this. It makes me question their intentions,” Jen Affleck said in a confessional interview.
Meanwhile, Zac Affleck described the move as “another jab from Jessi and Demi” at his and his wife’s expense.
“I don’t know in what world they think that they have some right to give us exposure therapy. To force something onto someone, and especially not tell them, I don’t think that you can claim to have a good intention,” he said.
In a confessional interview, Jen Affleck later admitted that she knew her friends were planning the dance.
“I didn’t realize how bad this would upset Zac. I just wanted to be the fun friend who just said, ‘Yeah, and that it would be so awesome.’ But I didn’t really question their intentions behind it and I also didn’t ask myself how I felt about it,” she said in a confessional interview.
The #MomTok star also said her husband was “upset” and “jumping to conclusions” after the party. She called the experience “triggering.”
While talking with his wife, Zac Affleck explained his feelings.
“I am frustrated because I feel like I’m having to stick up and defend our family and it’s making me look like the bad guy when these are your friends,” he said. “If my friends were doing these kinds of things to us, I would confront them or I would drop them.”
During the discussion, Zac Affleck requested that the film crew stop filming and walked away, explaining that he wanted to have the conversation later.
Where does the couple stand today?
Jen and Zac Affleck are still together as of May 2025.
The couple announced that they were expecting their third child in February 2025. In an interview with People, the expectant mother said filming the reality series “took a toll” on her marriage and mental health.
“There were many dark days. There’s so much more to our story than people realize,” she said.
In a separate interview with People, Jen Affleck opened up about the work she and her husband had done on their marriage.
“Just because of everything that we went through last year and because of everything we’ve had to do so much therapy,” she said.
After returning to #MomTok, Jen Affleck acknowledged that the experience was “daunting” because she and her husband “have gone through so much being a part of it.”
The expectant mother said her husband still has a few months to decide if he’s going back to medical school. For now, “his priority is just supporting me.”
